A 19-year-old student was taken into custody on Monday in Lyon after throwing an egg at President Emmanuel Macron in the aisles of the International Catering Fair, according to the prosecution.

The projectile bounced off the head of state's shoulder without breaking.

The author of the jet, who was at a short distance, was quickly arrested.

According to the prosecution, he is "completely unknown to the police and justice".

The police officers of the departmental security of the Rhône are currently questioning him on his motivations, as part of an investigation opened for "aggravated willful violence against a person holding public authority".

This brief incident occurred as Mr. Macron was visiting the stands of the International Restaurant, Hotel and Food Fair (SIRHA), in the Lyon metropolitan area, with three members of the government - the Minister of PME Alain Griset, Secretary of State for Tourism Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Minister of Agriculture Julien Denormandie - as well as the former chef of the Élysée, Guillaume Gomez.

In the aisles of the show, professionals warmly thanked him for state aid during the crisis, as well as for the announcement of an upcoming tax exemption for tips paid by bank card.

Supporters have also urged him on for the next presidential election.

On June 8, Emmanuel Macron was hit in the face by a man, on the sidelines of a trip to Tain-L'Hermitage, causing a major wave of protests within the political class.

Judged in immediate appearance two days after the facts, his attacker, unemployed and living from the RSA, was sentenced to four months in prison.

He was released from prison on September 21.
