At the end of his summer speech on 22 August, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) announced that he was resigning as party chairman of the Social Democrats in connection with this autumn's party congress.

Since then, the country's 26 party districts have one by one nominated Andersson as his successor.

On Monday evening, Blekinge party district announced that it had "in great agreement" decided on Andersson.

- We have had a broad process in the district where all working municipalities have had discussions with their members.

The discussions have resulted in us thinking that Magdalena Andersson is a very knowledgeable and competent candidate to be party chairman, says the district's first ombudsman Jörgen Englin.

"Capacity for the assignment"

Gotland also agreed that the district unanimously decided to nominate Andersson.

During her time as economic policy spokesperson and Minister of Finance, Magda has in an excellent way shown that she has the capacity for the assignment, says the district's chairman Ulla Pettersson.

- We also think that she has shown, perhaps mainly internally, that she has an ideological compass that we like, Pettersson adds.
