Sunday, at the end of the afternoon, many firefighters intervened for an extremely rare incident which occurred at the ferry terminal of Loon-Plage, near Dunkirk, in the North, we learned from the departmental fire department and emergency services (SDIS).

At around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, vehicles from Great Britain boarded the Dover Seaways ferry were exiting the ship when a heavy goods vehicle passed through the safety railing.

The cab of the truck was found suspended in a vacuum, held by the trailer which remained unstable on the ferry bridge.

Cranes and 60 firefighters to lift the heavy weight

The firefighters were quickly able to determine that the driver of the heavy vehicle, of Belarusian nationality, had suffered a cardiac arrest to which he had also succumbed.

The most difficult was to access the cabin to extract the body.

It took the intervention of about sixty firefighters, the men of the Grimp and the use of two lifting devices to put the truck back on the catwalk and finally extract the deceased driver.

A diesel leak on one of the tanks was partly treated by the antipollution vehicle, and a part spilled into the basin.

An investigation has been opened to indisputably determine the causes of death.
