Today, Monday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan begins a tour of the Middle East, starting with Saudi Arabia.

The White House National Security Council said Sullivan will travel to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, accompanied by the US special envoy for Yemen, Timothy Lenderking.

Council spokeswoman Emily Korn said in a statement that Sullivan will meet with "prominent leaders to discuss the many regional and global challenges."

She added that the council's Middle East and North Africa coordinator, Brett McGurk, will join Sullivan and Lenderking.

Earlier, the Associated Press reported that Sullivan will meet today with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to discuss the situation in Yemen, and Prince Khalid bin Salman will meet with Saudi Deputy Defense Minister.

Axios news website revealed about a week ago that the US National Security Adviser is planning a visit to the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt, to be the highest-ranking official in President Joe Biden's administration to visit the Kingdom.

The American website added - in a report - that the three Arab countries mentioned have long been partners of Washington, and that their relations with the Biden administration were subjected to some tensions in a number of files.
