A thunderstorm hit heavily this Sunday, at dawn, in the village of Menthon-Saint-Bernard (Haute-Savoie).

One of the lightning bolts fell on the roof of the house of Jeanne, 94, causing a fire to start.

Her neighbor, aged 27, was woken up by the sound of lightning and intervened to save the local resident, reports

The man, a volunteer firefighter, first had the right reflex by inspecting the surroundings.

"This is where I saw the plume of smoke from my neighbor, with a glowing glow on the ridge which quickly spread to the roof," he detailed to our colleagues.

A devastated house

Without thinking, he then came to the aid of the nonagenarian.

"Panicked, she could not walk, I carried her down the stairs, roof debris was starting to fall on us," he said.

About twenty firefighters then intervened to put an end to the fire, which devastated the roof and the first floor of the house.

Informed of the disaster, the mayor of Menthon-Saint-Bernard also arrived on site in the early morning and wished to express his support for Jeanne.

"We will be there for her, we will accompany her for the rest because the house is uninhabitable" he declared.
