Jordan decides to reopen the Jaber border post with Syria

Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Farayeh decided to reopen the Jordanian-Syrian border (Jaber border post) starting tomorrow morning, Wednesday, corresponding to the twenty-ninth of this month, and in accordance with the matrix of technical and logistical procedures for reopening this center to the movement of freight and travelers.

The Jordanian Ministry of Interior said in a press statement today, that this decision comes for the purpose of revitalizing the trade and tourism movement between the two brotherly countries, taking into account the required security and health measures, which came under the directives of the Prime Minister during his visit to the Jaber border post on the eighth of July. the past.

Yesterday, Sunday, the head of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority in Jordan, Tariq Habashneh, said that most of the land border crossings with Jordan have returned to work, with the exception of the Jordanian-Syrian border, "the Jaber-Nassib border."

He pointed out that "there are meetings this week with the Syrian side, and the dilemmas and problems that prevent the return of the movement of goods between the two countries will be discussed."

Habashneh added: "We are optimistic in a very short period of time that we will overcome the obstacles with the Syrian side to open the borders and reassure the citizens that there are signs of the return of the movement of trucks and goods with Syria."

This is not the first time that this crossing has been closed and opened, and the most recent was on August 1, when it decided to temporarily close the Jaber Nassib border post with Syria as a result of security developments in southern Syria.

The border with Syria is an important artery for Jordan's economy, as Jordanian goods are exported through it to Turkey, Lebanon and Europe, and Syrian goods are imported through it from those countries.
