"Without haste, or stress, but with determination",
PNV President Andoni Ortuzar intends to promote the transformation of the Statute of Gernika into a sovereign statute anchored in a "bilateral" relationship with Spain. Ortuzar has demanded from
Pedro Sánchez the commitment signed in December 2019
that included "promoting the
necessary reforms
to adapt the
structure of the State
to the recognition of
territorial identities
", especially in Catalonia and the Basque Country. "It is a prose that must be complied with," demanded Ortuzar.
Ortuzar and the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu have brought together 1,300 institutional, organic and affiliated positions in the first major political act after the declaration of the pandemic in March 2020. Ortuzar has coined the term
"fair self-government"
to distance himself from both EH Bildu and , above all, from his partner, the Socialist Party of Euskadi. The PNV leader intends to activate in the coming weeks a
round of bilateral meetings
with the rest of the Basque parties to reactivate the reform of the Statute that Urkullu announced in 2012 and which is paralyzed in the Basque Parliament.
Before these meetings that Ortuzar intends to be discreet, he has demanded that Pedro Sánchez fulfill one of the specific commitments he signed when the support of the PNV was guaranteed for his inauguration in December 2019. The nationalist president calls
for Sánchez's intervention
after verifying that the Socialist Party of Euskadi frontally rejects reopening the debate on the 'new status' as required by EH Bildu. Both
Idoia Mendia
and her successor as of November 21
Eneko Andueza
they have placed their opposition to the 'new status' as the first argument to recover the political profile of the Basque socialists. Ortuzar contextualized his decision to address this issue with the PSOE in this commitment of Sánchez and not as a "bridging" or "bravado" after the deep discomfort generated in his partner in the Basque Government when he addresses the change in the organic leadership.
Ortuzar has also announced a process of
"active listening"
to Basque society that will be activated in the coming months and that will take place in 2022, a very important pre-election year for PNV and EH Bildu, the two parties that aspire to increase their Political power in the Basque institutions in the foral and municipal elections of 2023. "We aspire to build a prosperous and well-cared for Basque society, in a welcoming and sustainable country thanks to a
sovereign Euskadi
", Ortuzar stressed in this unique 'Alderdi Eguna' (Match day) limited by Covid-19 to a political event in the fields of Foronda.
An act in which Urkullu wanted to place the crisis caused by the coronavirus as an
"opportunity" for the political future of Euskadi
.
"We have the opportunity to reach a
new political pact
that recognizes our national reality, the uniqueness of Basque self-government, establishes
a bilateral relationship in the State
and favors the presence and international projection of Euskadi Basque Country", the Lehendakari said before his affiliates.
On this occasion, Urkullu has not made any reference to the
privileges prior to 1839
, a controversial contribution that he made in the General Policy plenary session and that was criticized by the rest of the Basque parties.
