"The tasks of promoting the political process, led and carried out by the Syrians themselves with the assistance of the UN, as provided for by UN Security Council Resolution 2254, were discussed in detail," the ministry said in a statement.

It is noted that the parties paid special attention to the issue of resuming meetings of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva and continuing direct inter-Syrian dialogue without preconditions and external interference.

Earlier, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and Ukraine at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
