Many follow a diet that is almost impossible to maintain, and think that everything is lost the moment they step away from the strict guidelines of their diet.

However, they do not find any solution to this, and they do not know why.

A few days ago, two nutrition experts revealed to the British newspaper "Daily Mail" the reasons that impede burning fat as it should, despite eating healthy food and exercising, and it is summed up in 5 common mistakes, most of us fall into while going through the weight loss journey, and they are a reason in not reaching the goal.

The Health Circle Trap

Experts Susie and Lian caution against falling into the trap of "healthy auras", or the belief that "just because something is healthy means more of it is allowed".

"If there is a paleo, sugar-, gluten- and wheat-free cake, it doesn't mean you have to eat 4 pieces of it, just because it is healthy. You can eat one piece, and it is quite enough," says Lian.

Oftentimes, Susie adds, we overeat just because it's healthy, like the "ice cream" that you imagine you can eat for only 400 calories, to the shakes offered by health food cafes, which are in fact loaded with calories.

"It is very easy to fall into these health circles, and forget that size is so important, and makes all the difference when it comes to the real desire to lose fat," Lian warns.

Hence, "eating a normal, manageable amount of something that isn't promoted as healthy is much better than overindulging in things like protein balls and brownies with halos."

Although low-fat, processed foods are promoted as healthy choices that help you lose weight, they may have the opposite effect."

From perfection to imperfection

"You can allow yourself some freedom without being perfect," says dietitian Audra Wilson.

This was confirmed by expert Lian by warning against the "all or nothing" approach, where the person is committed, strict and organized throughout the week, and then completely escapes at the weekend.

According to Lian, "the vast majority of people who do this collapse by the end of the week, and explode like hell all day off," before returning to idealism at the start of a new week, and so on.

"This problem is very common among women, as they keep up their average weekly calories very well, while planning what they will eat on vacation," says Lian.

So they come back at the start of the week and “all the weight loss and the hard work they did all week is gone.”

And she adds, "This fluctuation between seeking perfection for days, and practicing evasiveness on other days, is what hinders many people from losing their excess weight."

The best solution is to take a more balanced approach throughout the week, "allowing yourself a little of what you love every day, but never overdoing it."

Therefore, British fitness expert Joe Warner warns that "eating some forbidden things from time to time may help you maintain your diet, and support your psychological state."

Homecoming obsession

At a time when many of us are very committed to our diet while at work, Suzy says that "when most of us get home, we start chewing whatever food we come across thoughtlessly, without realizing that often this is very reckless, and we may gain weight quickly." .

We pick up a few leftovers, or some crackers, until we sit down to dinner, after we've already had dinner, and without realizing, "Simple things like what's left on the kids' plates really lead to weight gain."

Night grazing approach

A 2013 study noted that “when people don’t pay attention to what they are eating, they tend to consume more.”

Which is exactly what happens when we eat more often than we think at home, not knowing what we snatch at night in front of the TV after dinner.

"A lot of people eat breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and a healthy dinner, and then give in to the urge to reward themselves all night long," Suzy says.

Not just a couple of bars of chocolate, or a few "ice cream", but frequent visits to the fridge during the evening.

It's what Susie calls the "grazing approach," grazing in food areas, that can completely undo all the good work you've done throughout the day.

She recommends avoiding this as much as possible.

Boring routine training

Susie warns against repetitive, lazy workouts.

So "unless you get a good workout to really get your heart rate up, it's often just pass time."

Both experts agree that "when it comes to fat loss, it's important to remember that nutrition is the king, and real exercise is the queen."

Therefore, you must exercise from 2 to 3 times a week, as experts confirm that "the benefit of exercising is determined by the amount of effort we make, and the calories that we can burn."
