• Events Burning of cars and trees and clashes with the police: Serious incidents in the second 'bottle' of La Mercè

To prevent new acts of vandalism and confrontations, the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guardia Urbana have prepared a special security device this Saturday night to access the Plaza Espanya area, María Cristina avenue and Montjuïc. This is what Mayor Ada Colau asked for after the serious incidents in this 'macro-bottle' that brought together 40,000 people without respecting the safety distance and many without masks, and resulted in 22 detainees, 5 injured agents and 34 people attended by the services of medical emergencies, 14 of them for injuries due to glass cuts or knives.

The device will be set with access controls, perimeter closures and filters to enter. In addition, despite the crowds that are planned in the area, the agents do not rule out that the 'bottle' may be held in other parts of the city due to this police pressure. There will be plainclothes and uniformed officers and it aims to minimize and prevent incidents.

The incidents last morning began when a group of violent men attacked uniformed members of the Urban Guard while assisting a victim of an assault. The situation got complicated in the following hours, with vandals attacking police cars, which have burned, as well as two containers to barricade and throw blunt objects against the line of the Urban Guard. Police material such as a vest has also been stolen and a police station was attacked.

As riot police from the Mossos arrive, there have been more clashes with the police, such as the throwing of blunt objects from the elevated bridge on Rius i Taulet street and the breakage of glass in pavilions of the Barcelona Fair.

Medical personnel caring for the wounded have also been attacked.

The agents selectively carried out the foam launchers to disperse the violent groups.

Around six in the morning there have been two acts of looting in two stores, damage to bus shelters, 8 motorcycles have been burned and another was thrown over the Gran Vía bridge, causing traffic risk.

At that time, 10 arrests were made.

The Mossos began an investigation to identify the rest of the people who caused vandalism.
