On September 17, the media, citing sources, reported that Moscow and Washington were coordinating the possibility of Nuland's arrival in Russia.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, commenting on these messages, noted that she had not yet been issued a visa.

Later, Kommersant reported that Russia may allow Nuland to visit Moscow, but expects a reciprocal grant of an American visa to a Russian diplomat who had previously been denied it.
