  The first publication ceremony of the series was held at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, hosted by the publisher, China Science and Technology Publishing Media Co., Ltd. (Science Press), and co-organized by the Urban Geography Professional Committee of the Chinese Geographical Society.

  According to reports, over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, Chinese urban geographers have actively participated in the research of national economic and social development. They have carried out research on urbanization, urban system, urban spatial structure, development zones and urban economic zones, and published them internationally and domestically. Published a series of high-level academic papers, which have attracted worldwide attention in the fields of socialist (new) urbanization, urban systems, urban agglomerations, metropolitan areas, urban spatial structure, urban society and living spaces, new towns and new districts, and small towns. The research results provide important theoretical support for the formulation and implementation of strategies such as regional coordinated development, urban-rural integration, and new urbanization. They also mark the characteristics and imprints of Chinese urban geography research in the international geography community.

The subject of urban geography in China has also grown from scratch, from weak to strong, and its academic influence has grown rapidly from domestic to international.

  In order to systematically summarize the representative achievements of China's urban geography disciplines in the past few decades, and clarify the future subject positioning and key directions, with the support of the Chinese Geographical Society, Science Press organized and planned the "China Urban Geography Series" in 2015. After "Chinese Natural Geography Series", "Chinese Human Geography Series" and "Chinese Natural Geography Series Monographs", Science Press launched the fourth large-scale series in the subject of geography.

Because of its theoretical value and disciplinary value, this series of books has been supported by the "13th Five-Year" National Key Publication Planning Project and the National Publishing Fund Project. Issued abroad.

  The "China Urban Geography Series" has 9 sub-volumes. The editors and authors of each sub-volume are from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, East China Normal University, Wuhan University, Nanjing Normal University and other institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutes. The urban geographers trained since China's reform and opening up have made achievements recognized by the Chinese and foreign urban geography circles in related research fields, and they are the backbone of China's urban geography research team.

  At the launch ceremony of the "Chinese Urban Geography Series", Academician Fu Bojie and Academician Zhou Chenghu delivered speeches respectively.

Academician Fu Bojie pointed out that the editing and publishing of the "China Urban Geography Series" is a great thing and a big project whether it is in terms of subject development, facing the major needs of the country, serving the society, or training talents in the subject.

  Academician Zhou Chenghu believes that the "China Urban Geography Series" is based on the representative scientific research results of the author teams of each sub-volume. The 9 sub-volumes launched this time form a self-contained system, covering the key scientific issues of urban geography research, and are consistent with the new era.
