The most important gathering took place in Martyrs Square in Tripoli.
The head of government accompanied by several of his ministers spoke at length.
The demonstrators, often very young, also came from several cities near Tripoli, on board air-conditioned buses chartered by the government, with, in addition, a meal served on board.
They enthusiastically called for “
Parliament to fall
” and chanted “long
live Dbeibah
”, with the aim of protesting against
the motion of censure passed
by Parliament on Tuesday. A decision that worsens the tension between the protagonists as the country prepares for elections at the end of the year.
Some slogans launched during the rally were however clearly hostile to the ballot: "
no election before a Constitution
" said one of them in particular.
Others called for "
driving out the UN mission
" or refused a possible candidacy of Marshal Haftar.
All under the eyes of the head of government Abdel Hamid Dbeibah who nevertheless affirms that there is no turning back possible.
The divisions that seemed to have faded for a moment following the Berlin process are resurfacing and even threatening to torpedo the ongoing political process, bringing the country back to square one.
