“We have confirmed that eight people, mostly civilians, were killed and another seven were injured in a car bomb explosion,” said Hamar Jajab District Commissioner Mukawi Ahmed Moody.
The Al-Shabab terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, the agency said.
In January, the US African command, in coordination with the Somali government, launched two airstrikes against targets of the Al-Shabab terrorist group in the south of the country.
