It is the little beast which climbs which climbs and which could do a task on the presidential candidacy of Anne Hidalgo.

Like every year, the Ministry of the Economy publishes the individual accounts of the municipalities, and it is an understatement to say that those of the city of Paris are not very shining.

According to the document published on the website impots.gouv.fr, the capital's indebtedness reached the figure of 7.7 billion euros on January 1, 2021. A considerable sum which is increasing from year to year since it no longer exists. was only 6.84 billion in the same period last year.

This increase of 867 million euros brings the debt per inhabitant to 3,498 euros.

Levallois-Perret is ahead of Paris, Lyon and Marseille far behind

According to our colleagues from Capital.fr, the mayor of Paris assumes this soaring debt and justifies it by the health crisis that has affected the city, by the lack of support from the State and by the emergency measures that had to be be taken (purchase of masks, exemption from patio fees, etc.).

If the city of Paris is preceded by other municipalities, such as its neighbor Levallois-Perret (4.436 euros per inhabitant), its debt is clearly higher than that of other large cities in France such as Marseille (1.772 euros per inhabitant), Lyon (769 euros per inhabitant) or Toulouse (408 euros per inhabitant).
