After a serious traffic accident with two deaths, a 39-year-old man is said to be permanently placed in a psychiatric ward.

The public prosecutor submitted a corresponding application to the Frankfurt Regional Court.

When it will come to the trial before the jury chamber is not yet known, said chief prosecutor Nadja Niesen on Friday.

According to investigators, the accused German was traveling at around 100 kilometers per hour in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen on February 13 of this year.

In the vicinity of the Südbahnhof, he caught two 31 and 49-year-old pedestrians with his car who wanted to cross the street at Grün.

Both were killed in the impact - another pedestrian narrowly escaped a collision.

Signs of schizophrenia

Legally, the indictment is based on double manslaughter and prohibited car racing.

After the man was arrested a few days after the accident, however, there were strong signs of schizophrenia, said Niesen.

The man spoke of intense voices that ordered him to drive faster and faster.

Niesen said he was unable to take any other traffic into account.

Within a week it is the second criminal case for a fatal traffic accident in Frankfurt.

Last Friday, the public prosecutor's office published a murder charge against a 39-year-old who killed two men and seriously injured a woman in Frankfurt's Ostend in November of last year.
