Former legendary footballer Pelé, 80, took "several steps" while recovering in hospital after colon surgery three weeks ago, his daughter wrote on Instagram.

"In recent days, he has taken several steps," said Kelly Nascimento, in a message illustrated with several photos of her and her father playing cards.

Smiling, the three-time Brazilian world champion looks in good shape in the pictures.

"He taught me how to play a card game and he's beating me down," she joked.

On Wednesday, she posted a video of the former number 10 singing the anthem of Santos, his club of heart, for whom he shone from 1956 to 1974, before joining the New York Cosmos at the end of his career.

Surgery for a suspicious colon tumor on September 4, Pelé left intensive care last week.

The result of the biopsy of this tumor detected during routine examinations has still not been made public.

The health of Pelé, who will be 81 on October 23, has been fragile in recent years, with several hospitalizations.

The last was in 2019, due to a severe urinary tract infection, followed by the removal of a kidney stone.
