An Indian court has ordered village women to wash clothes for half a year on condition of bail release of an attempted rape man.

According to the AFP news agency, a court in Bihar, India, on the 22nd, ordered 2,000 women in the village to wash and iron clothes for free instead of accepting the bail application of Ralan Kumar, an attempted rape victim.

Kumar was originally a laundry worker and was arrested in April of this year on charges of attempted rape.

Kumar has to purchase the detergent for washing the women's clothes at her own expense and must be supervised by the town council to ensure that the bail conditions are properly fulfilled.

The village council president Nashima Cartoon said, "All the women in the village are satisfied with the court's decision," and evaluated it as a "historical decision."

According to statistics from the National Bureau of Criminal Records of India, 28,46 cases of sexual assault were reported in India last year, an average of 77 cases per day.
