The movement intends to put pressure on the leaders a few days before the parliamentary elections in Germany but also the COP 26.

Two days before the parliamentary elections in Germany, the student environmental movements are determined to put pressure on the leaders.

Thousands of people led by Greta Thunberg demonstrate this Friday in Berlin, Paris but also Montreal.

Urgency to act

The main message put forward by the "Fridays For Future" movement is the urgency to act for the climate. This is the main demand that we hear in the student strikes that the movement organizes. The young people also won for the first time the opportunity to bring demands to the UN. On Monday, there will be 400 in Milan to prepare for the COP 26 which will be held in Scotland from November 1 to 12.

Among them, Nathan Méténier, 22 years old.

Since last year, this French student has been one of the seven young climate advisers to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

"In 2050, we will be 50 years old and the world that is emerging for us without action, obviously, it's a terrifying world. The idea is to reflect on these climate issues for two days. The last day will be devoted to a high-level dialogue with political decision-makers like the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom or of Italy, ”he explains.

During this pre-COP, each country is represented by two young people and the difficulty will therefore be to find at 400 a unified discourse and faithful to the concerns of a whole youth.

One theme, in particular, is dear to them and will undoubtedly be highlighted: the link between social injustice and climate injustice.
