In Mali, the National Transitional Council adopted on Thursday the bill creating a School of War.

The CNT, which acts as a Legislative Assembly during the transition period, voted for the creation of this school desired by the new authorities and which aims to strengthen the national security arsenal, in particular the training of future executives of the Malian army.

EGM, Mali's War School, will have to "

provide high-level training to senior officers of the defense and security forces

" - army, police, gendarmerie - but also to certain civilian executives.

It will also be a place for research on defense and security strategies, in collaboration with academia.

The officers who will come out of it are intended to occupy the highest positions of a staff, within the Malian army, of course, but also in international operations such as, for example, UN peacekeeping missions. .

Gain autonomy and cohesion

This School of War has been mentioned for several years but the transitional authorities have made it a priority, in order to gain autonomy and cohesion: to date, senior army officers are trained abroad, which creates a dependence for the number of places, and in different countries, which then gives rise to internal quarrels.

No date or place has yet been put forward, but the cost of the future School of War is estimated at more than 2.5 billion FCFA.

While the controversy does not ease over the possible arrival in Mali of the Wagner group, to which instructional missions could be entrusted, it is a French company made up of former soldiers that has been asked for the training of the future School of war.
