The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, noted that the end of the crisis between France and the United States "would take time" and will require "acts", reported, Thursday, September 23, the Quai d 'Orsay in a statement, following an interview in New York between the French foreign minister and his American counterpart, Antony Blinken.

The French minister "recalled that a first step had been taken during the call of the two presidents (Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron, Wednesday) but noted that the way out of the crisis between our two countries would take time and would require action ", indicates a statement from his ministry, published after the meeting in the premises of the French diplomatic mission to the UN.

Jean-Yves Le Drian has also agreed to "maintain close contact" with the US Secretary of State, it is added in the press release.

French anger

Australia's sudden decision to cancel a contract with France to acquire 12 French submarines and instead enter into a strategic partnership with the United States and Great Britain angered France.

Paris denounced a "blow in the back" and last week recalled its ambassadors in Washington and Canberra.

Jean-Yves Le Drian had underlined last Saturday that the recall by Paris of its ambassadors in the United States and in Australia was a "heavy political act" showing "the force of the crisis".

French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden agreed on Wednesday in a telephone interview to launch "in-depth consultations" to put in place "conditions guaranteeing confidence" between Paris and Washington after the crisis caused by this case.

France has promised that its ambassador to the United States will return to Washington next week.

The two heads of state are scheduled to meet at the end of October in Europe, the Elysee and the White House said on Wednesday.
