A 16-year-old teenager suspected of having stabbed Ibrahima to death, also 16, in Lilas (Seine-Saint-Denis) on Monday, was indicted and imprisoned on Thursday for "intentional homicide", the Bobigny prosecutor's office announced on Thursday .

The young victim, residing in the neighboring town of Bagnolet, was in the company of two friends in a rue des Lilas when he received a fatal stab, said the prosecution in a statement.

Hit by a stab wound to the chest, he died of his injuries in hospital almost two hours later.

Arrested shortly after the facts, the alleged perpetrator, who until then had no criminal record, according to the prosecution, was placed in pre-trial detention.

The investigation is now continuing under the aegis of an investigating judge.

Territorial rivalry

At this stage of the investigations, a territorial rivalry between the two cities could be at the origin of the outburst of violence of the suspect, according to a source close to the investigation.

The teenager, in the first STMG class at the Jean-Jaurès high school in Montreuil, was destined for a career as a professional footballer.

Since May, he played in U17 at the Montfermeil football club.

"This new tragedy arouses a very strong emotion: it amazes us, indignant us and revolts us", reacted Tuesday the mayors of Lilas, Bagnolet and Montreuil, in a joint press release.

A march in memory of Ibrahima is to take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Bagnolet, his family told AFP.
