On the day of the events, the man, returning from Spain, was arrested by customs while on his way to his country of origin.

Inside his refrigerated truck, around thirty black bags contained narcotics estimated at “1.7 million euros” at retail, according to a representative of the administration.

Four years in prison

At the hearing, the defendant assured that he was not aware of the presence of narcotics in his vehicle.

According to him, the drug would have been concealed among fruit and without his agreement when loading in Spain, details the local daily.

“I was told to stay in the cab of the truck because of the coronavirus,” he said.

Noting many inconsistencies in his speech, the judges decided to sentence him to four years in prison with continued detention, the newspaper said.

He also received a customs fine of more than 680,000 euros and the ban from French territory for ten years.
