Flatulence is a very annoying health problem because it causes great embarrassment to those affected by it, so what are its causes?

And how can it be faced?

To answer these questions, Dr. Viola Andersen, a member of the German Society of Gastroenterology and Metabolism, said that flatulence occurs due to excessive gas in the intestines.

Digestion difficulties

Andersen explained that the large number of gases in the intestines has several causes, most notably the difficulty in digesting milk sugar (lactose) and fruit sugar (fructose), problems with gut bacteria, and swallowing a lot of air due to eating quickly.

Flatulence is also due to some foods and drinks such as soft drinks, foods rich in dietary fiber such as legumes and cabbage, whole grain products, some vegetables and fruits, oilseeds and nuts.

food tricks

For her part, German nutrition expert Gabriella Freitag-Ziegler said that flatulence can be faced through some nutritional tricks, such as replacing difficult-to-digest foods with others that are easy to digest, for example, whole-wheat bread made of finely ground whole wheat flour should be eaten instead. From coarse, eat cabbage instead of white cabbage, and red lentils instead of yellow.

Herbs and spices

Herbs and spices, especially cumin seeds, fennel, anise, fresh basil, dill and thyme, can also help reduce the development of annoying gas.

Exercise is an effective weapon to fight flatulence, as it stimulates bowel movement, and thus gets rid of annoying gases.

If all these ways do not work in the face of flatulence, then you should consult a doctor, especially if the bloating is frequent and accompanied by abdominal pain, and in this case it is possible to resort to drugs that reduce gases.
