04 November 2020The deputy parish priest of Borgio Verezzi contested the Pope during a mass, calling him "a heretic who must be converted", the parish priest intervenes and interrupts him, but the faithful leave the church.

The criticisms were related to the Pontiff's sentences on civil unions.

The bishop, Msgr.

Guglielmo Borghetti, informed of the case, froze the deputy parish priest.

"No priest should ever allow himself to utter similar words against Pope Francis. A disciplinary action will be taken against Don Ragusa which will limit his activity and he will no longer be parish vicar of Borgio Verezzi".

The episode took place on Sunday, on the occasion of the All Saints' anniversary.

The story is told by the 19th century and by the press.

Stunned by the priest's words against the pope, the faithful left the church, Don Ragusa arrived in Borgo Verezzi last June to help the parish priest Joy Thottamkara. The don did not like Bergoglio's phrases on civil unions. "I had received an avalanche of messages from the faithful about what had happened in the morning and I was worried that it might happen again. Some faithful were crying on the phone, others told me that they would no longer come to church if he celebrated Don Ragusa, so I was here I'm". But the assistant pastor insists: "Are you aware of the situation of the Church today? The pope was wrong, he must be converted." The parish priest interrupts him: "You are off topic with respect to the Gospel, conclude the homily and continue the mass".But the unbelieving faithful leave the church.
