The match between Sandrine Rousseau and Yannick Jadot for the environmental candidacy in 2022 does not only interest the Greens: the rebels and the Socialists scrutinize the result of the primary, aware of the direct consequences on their own campaign.

The municipal and regional elections demonstrated that environmentalists could be the link between rebellious and socialist activists and executives, two worlds which oppose each other on principle.

But the elimination in the first round of the primary of the mayor of Grenoble Eric Piolle, who with his "humanist arc" proposed to embody this hyphen until the presidential election, changed the potential significance of the result of the primary.

The two finalists now each embody a well-identified pole: the "eco-feminist" Sandrine Rousseau is ideologically close to the rebellious France of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, credited with around 11% in the polls.

MEP Yannick Jadot embodies a pragmatic ecology close to the probable candidate of the Socialist Party, Anne Hidalgo, credited with 7 to 8% of the vote.

"The rebels would be delighted to rally to them Sandrine Rousseau and dream of a match on the left against the only Anne Hidalgo", underlines the deputy Matthieu Orphelin, support of Mr. Jadot, with AFP.

There are indeed many, among rebellious activists, to dream of a Mélenchon-Rousseau "ticket", as the former LFI candidate for legislative elections and journalist Taha Bouhafs tweeted.

The campaign director of Mr. Mélenchon, Manuel Bompard, explains that the Insoumis would be above all satisfied with the victory of Sandrine Rousseau for substantive reasons: "It would sign the victory of the line of rupture, of which the space would be widened" among the presidential candidates.

But the Insubordinate also sees in the victory of Mr. Jadot a potential good news: "People who were looking for the space of rupture would go to seek it elsewhere than among the ecologists", that is to say in the candidacy of Jean -Luc Mélenchon, anticipates the MEP.

- Disappointed with macronism -

"In our poll where Sandrine Rousseau only receives 2% of the vote in the event of appointment, compared to Jadot's 6%, she loses points for the benefit of Anne Hidalgo and Arnaud Montebourg and this would have no obvious effect on Jean -Luc Mélenchon ", decrypts Jean-Daniel Lévy from the Harris Interactive Institute.

Despite its displayed radicalism, "Sandrine Rousseau designated would be perceived in the social-ecological galaxy and not rebellious", he indicates.

For Sergio Coronado, at the crossroads of Insoumis and EELV for having been a former Green deputy and former LFI candidate for the 2019 Europeans, "Sandrine Rousseau will not give up".

"So the candidate that the Insoumis would prefer to face, it is rather Yannick Jadot and his institutional ecologist, Macron-compatible", he judges.

Socialist side, in the camp of Anne Hidalgo, it is estimated that there are not simply "two scenarios" according to the winner of the primary.

"It all depends on the dynamics in the final result, and the extent of the gathering of the other candidates of the primary behind the winner", analyzes a relative of the mayor of Paris.

Who anticipates with gusto: "Even if Jadot wins, it will be difficult, it will not give her momentum. And it is hard to see Sandrine Rousseau shut up if she loses".

This elected socialist affirms not to fear Mr. Jadot, because "Anne Hidalgo is at the same time social-democrat and environmentalist", thus representing according to him a broader electoral field.

But he admits that a victory for the radical Sandrine Rousseau "would liberate a political space" on the left.

The pollster Jean-Daniel Lévy observes that Yannick Jadot and Anne Hidalgo are "touch-key" in the studies, and notes the danger of the first for the second in a "social-ecological space for the moment limited between 15 and 20% ":" The potential is greater for Jadot because he can rally disappointed Macron who would find it difficult to return to a socialist candidate.
