On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, in Ambleteuse, in Pas-de-Calais, a man opened fire on police officers.

The latter retaliated, wounding the individual with bullets, we learned from the Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor's office.

At around 2.20 am, three police officers from the Lens police station, on a surveillance mission, were driving along the Ambleteuse dyke, on the Opal Coast.

"They were approached by an individual, on foot, who took out a handgun and opened fire in their direction," said the prosecution.

The assailant hit by four bullets

In response, the police used their service weapons and fired six times, added the prosecution, adding that none of them had been injured.

"The weapon has been seized," said the prosecutor.

Hit by four bullets in the legs, abdomen and thorax, the man was immediately hospitalized with a “reserved” vital prognosis, said the prosecution.

Aged 20, the defendant, domiciled in Ambleteuse, is already known to the courts for acts of violence on the ascendant.

The investigation was entrusted to the research section of the Lille gendarmerie.
