A 49-year-old man who visited a gas station stand in Idar-Oberstein in western Germany fired a gun at a clerk, killing the clerk.

According to local police, the man visited the store without a mask and was asked to wear it by a clerk, who left the store once, but then came back with a mask.

However, because he took off his mask when making a payment at the cash register, he argued with the clerk and fired a gun to escape.

The next morning, the man appeared in police and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man told police interrogation, "I was angry when I was denied entry and was told to wear a mask."

Following the incident, Chancellor Angela Merkel said, "I lost my word to uncontrollable violence."

In Germany, it is mandatory to wear masks in stores and public transportation, and the shock is spreading to the incidents that occurred over compliance with infection control.
