On Wednesday, eight people appeared before the Paris Criminal Court.

They are judged for "public insults committed because of origin, ethnicity, race or religion" towards April Benayoum, Miss Provence and candidate for Miss France 2021. Some defendants minimize the facts.

It should only be a simple speech on peace in the world, as in every Miss France contest.

Tonight in December 2020, April Benayoum steps onto the stage.

The 21-year-old student talks about her love for geography, which she says is linked to her Israeli origins.

It is the start of a torrent of hatred and insult that will pour out against her on social networks all evening.

In this case, eight people appeared on Wednesday for racist and anti-Semitic insults.

Seven went to the Paris Criminal Court.

A trying trial for the candidate

The runner-up of Miss France 2021 comes out tested after 8 hours of hearing which plunged her back 9 months.

"It will be a long time for me to forgive them. There are still consequences today, but I want to move on. I want to believe them sincere about their apologies."

"The lesson is understood", assures another defendant after a clumsy defense.

“I have always insulted everyone, but on social media only,” he said.

"We are one and the same person in life," replied the prosecutor in his indictment.

The magistrate requires two months of suspended prison for all the defendants.

The decision will be released on November 3.
