  • A 10-year-old child was followed and attacked at her home in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire on September 14.

The younger of the two victims showed "extraordinary courage", considers the public prosecutor. A 57-year-old man was arrested Monday morning in Vertou after sexual assault on two minors, of which he is suspected of being the author. The first assault took place on September 13 in Nantes: a 12-year-old schoolgirl was at a tram station when the suspect approached her, touched her thigh, then followed her to her entrance At her place.

The next day, in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire, the same man spotted another young girl on the bus, followed her and then forced himself into her home, up to the second floor.

"She screamed, she pushed him, she hit him, enough for this man to give up and eventually flee," said Renaud Gaudeul, public prosecutor of Nantes.

It is the report made by the latter that made it possible to reconcile the two cases.

“The modus operandi immediately worried us,” he continues.

It has become a top priority for the prosecution and the police.

Already condemned by the Assize Court

Confused by his DNA found on the Sébastien victim, the individual was arrested, without difficulty, in the home where he has lived for two years. He admitted part of the facts. The prosecution requested his indictment and his placement in pre-trial detention on the counts of "attempted rape of a minor under 15 years of legal recidivism" and "sexual assault on a minor under 15 years of legal recidivism. ".

If justice evokes a "recurrence", it is because the suspect was already very unfavorably known.

To his credit, no less than five convictions for sexual assault committed in the region of Saumur (Maine-et-Loire) between the end of the 1980s and the end of the 1990s. An already thick file to which must be added a conviction in 2010, by the Assize Court of Maine-et-Loire, to 16 years of criminal imprisonment for rape and attempted murder.

Released in April 2019 thanks to an automatic remission of sentence linked to his "good behavior in detention", the man had settled in Vertou.

He was the subject of a socio-judicial follow-up, an injunction of care and an electronic bracelet.

As many obligations which had been respected, specifies the prosecutor.

The two victims were taken care of by specialized professionals.
