Magnitude 6 earthquake strikes Australia

An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale hit areas near the town of Mansfield in the Australian state of Victoria today.

The Australian Geosciences Authority said the epicenter of the quake occurred near the rural town of Mansfield, about 200 km northeast of Melbourne, and was at a depth of 10 km, and was felt by residents of New South Wales and the capital province of Canberra.

The earthquake caused some physical damage to buildings, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries as a result of the earthquake.
