22 September 2021 The case of little Eitan, the only survivor of the Mottarone tragedy, has more and more the connotations of a family dispute. This was stated to Adnkronos Or Nirko, Eitan's paternal uncle and husband of Aya, the child's guardian, on the eve of the first hearing in Tel Aviv which will have to establish the eventual return of the child to Italy. "At first he probably thought he was on vacation, but now he understands that things are not going well." On 11 September his maternal grandfather, under investigation by the Pavia prosecutor for aggravated kidnapping, kidnapped him and took him to Israel to make him grow up according to Jewish culture.

"The grandfather appealed for the protection of the child, but when he saw that it was not happening he did what he did. He said in several interviews that he is a person who has nothing to lose, this is a dangerous person" . "You cannot take a child who has suffered a trauma and add a second trauma by transporting him to a country with a language that speaks worse than Italian, in an environment he does not know, removing him from everything that was close to him".

In an interview with Repubblica, the maternal grandmother said she was only able to see Eitan for the first time on 29 June. According to her paternal uncles, in reality, the woman remained in Israel for her "choice", while her grandfather Shmuel, who was in Italy, went to visit the baby in their home three times a week until last September 11 when she then brought him. away, first in Switzerland and then in Israel.
