The journey, which is just over 180 km long, involves more than two hours by ambulance, once a week.

The five drivers that Berit asked were not vaccinated, nor did they wear a mouth guard.

- I'm worried about myself, and other people.

I wish they start with mouth guards again, because they have people (drivers) who have not taken their syringes, says Berit Apelgren Linderson.

Belongs to a risk group

Berit, who already suffers from the neurological disease MS, is also a smoker and is undergoing cancer treatment.

Which her son Torbjörn thinks makes her extra susceptible to infections.

Although Berit is fully vaccinated, he is very worried.

- The probability that she dies is of course much smaller, it decreases with what I understand about 90 percent.

But, there is still a 10 percent risk that I will lose my mother prematurely, says Torbjörn Linderson.

"Think it's irresponsible"

Berit thinks that the responsibility does not only lie with the individual driver.

- I think it's irresponsible.

If the drivers are employed, it is the companies' responsibility to tell how dangerous covid is, she says.

Can not require vaccinated drivers

Kalmar County Traffic (KLT) is ultimately responsible for medical travel and travel services.

But the service is purchased through subcontractors.

Lars Lindahl, who is deputy traffic director at KLT, says that KLT cannot demand that the drivers be vaccinated.

- We do not have that opportunity, says Lars Lindahl.
