A five-year-old child was hit by a car this Tuesday evening, in the town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray (Seine-Maritime), near Rouen.

When help arrived on site, he was in cardiopulmonary arrest and was declared dead by a doctor from Smur on his arrival at the hospital.

According to the first elements of the investigation, revealed by 76actu, the child was crossing on a protected passage with his father to visit his grandmother when the motorist arrived at high speed.

The BMW would have passed another vehicle on the right before running a red light, specifies France Bleu Normandie.

Two suspects placed in police custody

Thanks to numerous witnesses and video surveillance, the police identified two suspects, an adult and a minor, who were taken into police custody.

"I was deeply shocked when I learned of this tragedy", commented the mayor of the city, Joachim Moyse.

"There was a hit-and-run, unconscious and inconsistent young people produce death, this adds a very heavy feeling, of insecurity on which we must continue to work," he added to
