It is in the middle of a room full of sympathizers that Kaïs Saïed, the Tunisian president, took the floor this Monday evening.
Stiff, his face closed and showing some signs of nervousness, he announced that
the exceptional measures would remain in force
.
Parliament therefore remains frozen.
The immunity of deputies lifted.
A speech made live from Sidi Bouzid, cradle of the Tunisian revolution.
The only new features: the upcoming promulgation of a new Electoral Code, but also the announcement of future transitional measures.
A statement that aroused the concern of many members of Tunisian civil society on social networks;
some wonder if these measures signify the end of constitutional order in Tunisia.
President Kaïs Saïed's speech finally seems to have drawn more questions than answers.
A speech that comes at a time when international pressure is increasing and when
hundreds of Tunisians demonstrated
last weekend against what they qualify as a "coup" by Kaïs Saïed.
