In an opinion poll for the election of the president of the Liberal Democratic Party to elect the successor of Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Kono Taro, Minister of Administrative Reform, was found to be leading the way.

Japan's Sankei Shimbun reported that as a result of a telephone poll of 1,116 voters over the age of 18 for two days on the 18th and 19th, 52.6% of the respondents selected Kono in charge as a suitable candidate for the new LDP leader.

After Kono, Fumio Kishida, former chairman of the political affairs investigation committee of the Liberal Democratic Party, was surveyed with 15.2 percent, former secretary-general Sanae Takaichi 11.6 percent, and Seiko Noda acting as secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party with 6.4 percent.

In particular, when looking at the supporters of the LDP alone, it was found that Minister in charge of Kono received overwhelming support with 55.8%.

The LDP president-elect elected by the vote to be held on the 29th will be elected as the 100th Japanese prime minister following Prime Minister Suga at the extraordinary National Assembly convened on the 4th of next month.
