Abdullah Obshar, one of the leaders of the Supreme Council of Beja Opticals and Independent Al-Amoudis in eastern Sudan, demanded the dissolution of the Sudanese government and the appointment of a competent government, calling on the army to what he described as correcting the course of the revolution, amid the closure of major ports in the strategic city of Port Sudan in protest against what the council describes as marginalizing their areas.

In a telephone conversation with Al-Jazeera, Obshar warned the government against appointing governors in eastern Sudan, pledging to appoint a governor by the council if the government did so.

Obshar said that the council closed today the "Bashaer 1" port for oil export, and that the closure of the rest of the ports will continue unless the government responds to the council's demands.

The Supreme Council - a tribal council - announced, on Friday, the closure of ports in the Red Sea and the national road between Port Sudan (east) and the capital, Khartoum.

The Council is protesting against the East track included in the peace agreement signed in Juba between Khartoum and armed rebel movements, where it complains about the marginalization of the eastern regions, and demands the abolition of the track and the establishment of a national conference for eastern issues, which will result in the approval of development projects in it.

Al-Jazeera correspondent from Port Sudan port, Osama Sayed Ahmed, said that a government delegation is scheduled to arrive in the city to negotiate with the Supreme Council.

Anadolu Agency quoted Cabinet Affairs Minister Khaled Omar Youssef as saying that the government is committed to making the solution to the issue of eastern Sudan through dialogue and discussion, and not by dividing the components.

Youssef added that all components of eastern Sudan must end the problems between them, and sit together with the government to reach a comprehensive solution that does not exclude or exclude a party.

Port Sudan port is one of the strategic Sudanese ports and accounts for 95% of Sudan’s exports and imports (French)

He pointed out that the government recognized that the eastern path of Sudan was deficient within the peace agreement signed in Juba, because it did not include all parties, pointing out that the government agreed to have a separate forum for the other components, which did not participate in the eastern path until a comprehensive solution is reached.

Port Sudan

Port Sudan port - which bears the name of the coastal city - is located in the north-east of Sudan on the Red Sea. It was opened in 1909. It is considered the main sea port of Sudan. It is of strategic importance and connects 3 continents.

The port includes a number of specialized ports, including the northern and southern port, "Bashaer 1" and "Bashaer 2".

The Red Sea State accounts for about 95% of the movement of Sudanese exports and imports, and the population of Port Sudan is about 600,000 people (according to 2011 estimates).

Petroleum is one of the most important industries in the Red Sea State, in addition to the export of gold.
