21 September 2021 The EU Commission has signed a joint procurement framework contract with the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly for the supply of a treatment with monoclonal antibodies for coronavirus patients. This was announced by the community executive itself.

The new contract marks the "latest development" in the "first portfolio of five promising therapies announced by the Commission" in June as part of the Covid therapy strategy.

The medicine is currently under review by the EMA. Eighteen Member States have signed the joint contract for the purchase of up to 220,000 treatments.
