The Award dedicated to Mario Verdone, reserved for a young Italian author who has particularly distinguished himself in the last film season for his first work, was established in agreement with the Verdone family by the European Film Festival, in collaboration with the Experimental Center of cinematography and the National Union of Italian Film Journalists. The jury is made up of Carlo, Luca and Silvia Verdone who choose the winner from among the selected authors.

"It is the twelfth edition of the Prize dedicated to our father in a difficult period for all due to the pandemic - underline the Verdone brothers -, but fortunately the sets have restarted and this year too we have found ourselves in front of many interesting and great quality. We are very happy that, once again, there are young female directors to be part of the ten or so of the Award. All talents of our cinema and the female presence pleases us in a particular way, because it emphasizes that being a director does not need a genre. We thank the European Film Festival once again for offering this opportunity to the levers of the future of European cinema ”.
