Arrest of all participants in the attempted coup in Sudan

The Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

The Sudanese News Agency "SUNA" said that all participants in the coup attempt in Sudan have been arrested, and investigations have begun, pointing out that the security and military authorities thwarted the coup attempt at dawn today.

The Sudanese army said in a statement broadcast on state television that it had thwarted the coup attempt, and the Sudanese News Agency quoted Brigadier Taher Abu Haja, media advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as saying that the situation is completely under control.

Mohamed Elfaki Suleiman, a spokesman for Sudan's ruling Sovereign Council, told Reuters earlier that the interrogation of those suspected of involvement in Monday's coup attempt was scheduled to begin.

A source in the Sudanese government, who asked not to be named, said that the coup attempt included efforts to control Omdurman Radio, which is located on the other bank of the Nile opposite the capital, Khartoum.

A witness said the army used tanks to block a bridge linking Khartoum to Omdurman early Tuesday morning.

Sudan is currently governed under a power-sharing agreement between the military and civilians following the overthrow of former President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019.

The transitional authorities said that they had thwarted or monitored previous coup attempts linked to factions loyal to al-Bashir.
