Putin, 'excellent United Russia, confirmed leadership'

Kremlin, no decision on possible reshuffle after vote

No decision has yet been taken on possible government reshuffle after the Duma elections in Russia. This was stated by the spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov. "If the president makes a decision on certain appointments, of course coordination with the Duma will be required, consistent with the new Constitution. As for whether or not the president makes this decision, we never announce such things in advance." Peskov said.

The opposition denounces the fraud in Putin's victory

The Russian opposition accused the authorities of massive electoral fraud after election results reveal that the ruling United Russia party won a qualified majority in parliament. The three-day vote that ended Sunday followed an unprecedented crackdown on President Vladimir Putin's critics and came despite pre-election polls showing United Russia's popularity at an all-time low.

The president's party claimed a two-thirds majority in the Duma, with Andrei Turchak saying that United Russia was a "convincing and clean victory". Turchak that the party won 120 seats from the party list and 195 single-term seats - a total of 315 seats out of 450, down from the previous 344 seats. The allies of Alexei Navalny, the main Russian opposition exponent in prison since February, have called the results extravagant. "This is truly incredible. I remember the feeling in 2011, when they stole the election. The same is happening now," Navalny spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said. According to Navalny supporters, the vote was falsified on a large scale, pointing in particular to the repeated delays in the release of electronic voting results in pro-opposition Moscow.

Berlin, we take allegations of voting irregularities seriously

"The outcome of the elections in Russia is not yet final, but the irregularities reported by the opposition must be taken seriously". This was stated by Angela Merkel's spokesperson, Steffen Seibert, responding to a question on the subject at a press conference in Berlin. "We have no clues of our own on the irregularities but there are massive accusations from observers and the opposition, which must be taken seriously", he specified. "The loss in terms of pluralism and democratic participation is worrying", he also stressed about the political context in which the elections take place.
