M.'s lawyers Christian Flokstra and Nico Meijering based their allegations on messages originating from the telephone that B. had on cell in the period from the end of 2017 to the beginning of 2018.

According to the lawyers, the messages are relevant because it is prohibited to offer financial compensation for statements.

The lawyers wanted more clarity about this from the Public Prosecution Service.

According to

, the Public Prosecution Service has therefore not paid any money to B. However, according to the newspaper, the Public Prosecution Service would have threatened with unpleasant and unsafe measures against him, his family and his lawyers, when he wanted to leave the witness protection program.

Around the Marengo trial, B.'s innocent brother was shot dead in March 2018.

A year later, the same happened to his lawyer, Derk Wiersum.

Crime journalist Peter R. de Vries, who assisted B. as a confidential adviser, was shot dead in July of this year.

What is the Marengo process about?

  • This process involves a total of six liquidations, four attempted murders, four preparatory acts for murder and the preparation of an attack on a spy shop in Nieuwegein.

  • Some victims involved multiple crimes.

For example, Martin Kok had survived two liquidation attempts before he was murdered on December 8, 2016.

  • All offenses took place in less than a year and a half: from September 2015 to January 2017.

  • Only Ridouan T. is a suspect in all cases.

The other suspects each had their own role in one or more offences.

  • In March 2018, it was announced that a key witness had made statements about liquidations in Amsterdam and Utrecht.

This key witness is Nabil B.

Relationship crown witness Nabil B. and the Public Prosecution Service was difficult from the start

The relationship between Nabil B. and the Public Prosecution Service was difficult from the start.

Nabil B. canceled his protection agreement with the Witness Protection Team (TGB) in April 2019 due to a breach of trust.

For example, the crown witness deal against B.'s will was announced before his family was safe.

A week later, his brother Reduan was shot dead.

Also, through the actions of the Public Prosecution Service, B.'s police photo was made public and his psychological examination (into his suitability for isolated detention) was used for other purposes without his permission and leaked to the media.

In addition, it turned out that Nabil B. had to 'earn' things like visits from his family and relatives, also shortly after his brother was murdered.

Other Marengo suspects were not or less radically restricted in this respect.
