After 16 years with Angela Merkel (CDU) at the helm, it's time for someone else to take over as Chancellor.

Three people are running for her seat: party colleague Armin Laschet, Social Democrats (SPD) Olaf Sholz and Annalena Baerbock, who leads the Green Party (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen).

And it is very even before the election to the Bundestag on Sunday, states Armin Laschet.

But the situation looks bleak in the opinion polls, and the Christian Democrats are now doing their utmost to catch up with the SPD.

- We are fighting for the Christian Democrats to become the largest party and for us to continue the path that Angela Merkel has set out, says Armin Laschet to SVT.

- If the red-greens were to get a majority, it would be a different Germany.
