"The report recommends increasing the refugee admission target from 62,500 in fiscal 2021 to 125,000 in fiscal 2022 to meet the needs of the world's humanitarian crises," the US Department of State said in a statement.

The State Department noted that the reception of refugees "plays an important role in the interests of the United States in the field of foreign policy and in the field of national security."
