“In the short term, Nord Stream 2 will benefit Ukraine.

Gazprom will satisfy additional European requests for gas supplies via this gas pipeline, because it is profitable for it, and it is unprofitable to pump additional volumes through Ukraine, because there is an increased coefficient on transit rates, ”the expert noted.

At the same time, the specialist added that Ukraine buys Russian gas from intermediaries with reference to the prices of the European market.

“It turns out that if prices in Europe are reduced with the help of Nord Stream 2, then Ukraine will benefit from this, imported gas will also become cheaper for it, because it is tied to European prices,” Yushkov explained.

The analyst recalled that under the current transit contract, Ukraine will, in any case, receive money for the transit of 40 billion cubic meters of gas per year until the end of 2024.

"That is, even if nothing is pumped through Ukraine at all, it will still receive money," the interlocutor of RT explained.

Earlier, the head of the executive committee of the Ukrainian National Council of Reforms, ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili admitted that the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could be useful for Ukraine.
