At least 8 people were killed and others were injured today, Monday, in a shooting incident inside a university in the city of Perm in Siberia (eastern Russia), while sources reported that the attacker had been neutralized.

And the French press agency quoted Russian investigators as saying that the shooting killed 8 people.

Reuters news agency quoted Russian security sources as saying that the attack killed 6 people and wounded 5 others, while Russian reports indicated that about 15 others were injured.

While the agency quoted Perm University as saying that the attacker was shot dead, Russian media reported that security forces had arrested him.

Interfax had previously said that the person who fired the shot had been neutralized.

The Russian agency quoted a source in the ambulance service as saying that an unknown person stormed the premises of Perm State University and opened fire on students and teachers, causing deaths and injuries.

Motives for the attack

According to Russian media, the shooter wrote on his account that the attack was not a terrorist, that he was not religious and did not belong to a political party or an extremist organization, and also said that he carried out everything alone, and that no one knew what he would do.

According to Russian sources, the attacker may be obsessed with weapons, as he wrote that he dreamed of shooting.

For its part, the official RIA Novosti news agency reported that some students were stuck in classes and had to jump out of windows.

A video clip showed the moment students jumped from the university campus during the shooting.
