19 September 2021 A 74-year-old man from Arenzano (Genoa) was seriously injured by a boar he had shot. The incident occurred during a hunting trip in the countryside of Castelletto d'Orba, in the province of Alessandria.

The 74-year-old, who is part of a wild boar hunting team, was in the woods of Alessandria together with other members of the group for a wild boar hunt.

The man, after having fired a rifle and wounded the large wild animal, was violently attacked by the wild boar which struck him several times in the legs and severed his femoral artery.

The situation immediately appeared very serious: the other hunters promptly helped their batting partner by tightening the injured leg with a belt of their trousers to stop the bleeding. At the same time they raised the alarm, asking for help from 118. Helicopter rescue intervened on the spot to speed up the rescue operations. The helicopter transferred the hunter to the Santi Antonio e Biagio Hospital in Alessandria where he was hospitalized in code red. It is in a reserved prognosis.

The Carabinieri of the Novi Ligure Company are carrying out all the necessary investigations on the incident and have ascertained that the man was attacked by the wild boar after the first shot from a rifle that injured the animal.
