- There are no reliable statistics, because you count in slightly different ways in different activities, but we estimate it to about 150-250 people per year who become so-called defectors, says Anders Forsgren, expert at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's security department, who has been involved and produced the proposal on behalf of the government.

According to several authorities, there is a clear tendency for the number of defector cases to increase.

In the national operation Rimfrost, the police authority has identified around 3,000 people who may be in need of defector activities, and within the police's crime victim and personal security activities, Bops, the number of cases increased between 2019 and 2020 from 40 to 130.

The City of Västerås also believes that the number of defector cases can increase after the police's efforts against the criminal networks and has therefore been equipped to be able to receive more defectors.
