Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on Friday his intention to dissolve the Nawa publishing house, the “center for oriental studies and translation”, which publishes and distributes several works promoting jihad. Europe 1 reveals the arguments of the ministry to proceed with this dissolution.

It is a strong decision by Gérald Darmanin which requires justifications.

The Minister of the Interior wants to dissolve the Nawa publishing house, the "center for oriental studies and translation", located in Ariège, which he accuses of publishing and distributing works promoting jihadism.

For this, the Minister of the Interior must first explain in a letter to the owner of this publishing house, Abû Soleiman Al-Kaabi, the reasons for his decision.

This is called the contradictory.

Europe 1 had exclusive access to this document.

The minister relies on two main arguments.

Hatred and discrimination

First of all, Gérald Darmanin mentions incitement to hatred and discrimination.

In this document that Europe 1 was able to consult, Gérald Darmanin writes about a book signed by the vice-president of Nawa: "This work legitimizes the use of stoning in the event of homosexual relations".

A stoning also recommended, "for adulterous women".

Other publications translated by Sami Mlaiki, the president of the association in person, also defend "the killing as well as the violence towards people refusing to pray and to repent".

In the same vein, the Minister of the Interior mentions the publication of anti-Semitic books, inciting the murder and extermination of Jews.

Promotion of acts of terrorism

For Gérald Darmanin, it is about the promotion of acts of terrorism.

He notes that Sami Mlaiki, the president of the association, clearly shows his commitment to promote jihad and terrorist organizations.

The vice-president of the association, moreover, still on the subject of jihad, speaks of a "duty of Muslims" and praises "death as a martyr" as well as "the creation of an Islamic state".

According to the Interior Ministry, members of the Nawa association are also very close to several terrorists as well as to the CCIF and Baraka City, two associations dissolved several months ago.

Sami Mlaiki, defender of the jihadist cause

According to this confidential document, "Sami Mlaiki operates in a pro-jihadist environment". We learn, for example, that his father-in-law is one of the founders of the Islamist community of Artigat, from which the well-known names of the anti-terrorism services come from. The Merah brothers, Fabien Clain, Sabri Essid and Thomas Barnoin ... People that Sami Mlaiki venerates. Moreover in March 2019, the latter wrote: "We can recognize the current jihadist organizations a certain talent to exhaust the Western war machine".

Finally, Sami Mlaiki does not hesitate to refer in his books and videos to the Al Qaeda flag, which he has reproduced on the back of several covers. It is therefore a very radicalized profile. And it is also not excluded that after this dissolution, other associations promoting Islamism will in turn fall into the sights of the Minister of the Interior.
