The eruption took place in the area of ​​Cumbre Vieja National Park in the southern part of La Palma in the afternoon after 5 pm Finnish time.

Due to the eruption, people in the vicinity began to be evacuated.

Soldiers were assigned to assist the operation.

A total of more than 1,000 people have been ordered to leave their homes.

Temporary shelters have been opened for evacuees.

The volcano is located in a rather sparsely populated mountain area.
